So since I last posted, my novel for young people has gotten rejected twice. In both instances, the mss got to the second level (e.g. passed from one editor to a colleague or higher-up) but didn't make it past that point. I'm collecting all my rejection letters, of course, so that when I'm HUUUGELY successful I can pull out all these letters and add them to my Rejected? Don't Give Up! page. :-)
Meanwhile, I've moved on to other writing projects, of course.
For those of you doing NaNoWriMo this year, my cartoons are also appearing every weekday on the site. Plus this week, the NaNoWriMo song I wrote is in the Wrimoradio podcast, sung by my music partners and accompanied by our friend Scott Snyder.
But back to writing...
Finally finished my rewrite (yes, my revisions turned into a full-out rewrite) and have sent it to my agent, who will be sending it to the editor who originally liked it.
Please do keep your fingers crossed hard for me!!!!
(apologies for all the exclamation marks, but I can't help it)
Definitely need to keep this better updated! Anyway, since my last update:
- Finished the first draft of my rewrite (about 60,000 wds) and am proofreading it myself before sending it to my proofreaders.
- Was hired by BlogTO for their blogging team. My focus will be on their Food and Books/Lit sections.
- Joined Recipocrity, an online critiquing group for authors of MG (middle grade) fiction. Very satisfying experience so far.

Novel revision update: 13,520 wds.
Novel revision update: 8571 wds. The going's pretty slow right now because one of the revisions that the editor asked me to make is to streamline the beginning so that a certain major plot development occurs within the first 100 pages. This involves a LOT of cutting, but I also need to squeeze a bunch more backstory and character development. I've almost reached the turning point, though, so hopefully things will go more quickly soon...

Novel revision update: 6420 words so far. At this rate, I don't know if I'm going to be finished by the end of the month, but at least I'm revising at a steady pace. Sigh...
Cartoon above: recently posted in Inkygirl: Daily Diversions For Writers.
Total wordcount so far: 5043 wds.
Okay, an overdue update. I've finished my excruciatingly detailed outline in Scrivener (based heavily on revision discussions with the editor at XXX, where XXX is a publisher considering my book) and have started the actual rewrite. I'll be using this Vox journal to record my progress.
Starting wordcount as of right now: 2,473. Ultimate goal is around 60,000 words. I'll be rewriting big sections of the book but also re-using already written sections as well.
For those interested in my writing cartoons, please see the newly revamped Inkygirl: Daily Diversions For Writers.
